Farewell Flight recently stopped by Ardent Studios during their never-ending tour to have lunch and update us what’s been going on with the band since they recorded here.  The band has recently finished their sophomore album “Lonesome Traveler”,  which is currently being mixed and mastered. The release date is set for early 2010.

1. What has been the biggest thing to happen to you in 2009?

Probably when we won our Grammy. Oh wait that didn’t happen.

2. What’s the best music event you have attended?

We played XPoNential Festival in Philadelphia this summer (alongside bands like Guster, Pete Yorn, They Might Be Giants, etc).

3. Name some albums you have been listening to this year and why you like them

MGMT, Okkervil River, Lorien, Gaslight Anthem, Lydia, Coconut Records, Johnny Cash, House of Heroes, Muse, Queen, Radiohead, New Frontiers

4. Can you explain the name of your band?

Not really.  alliteration is cool?

5. Do you prefer recording or touring? Why?

Touring.  Recording is fun in it’s own way, but often times can be really stressful.  We love playing a show in a different town every night, meeting new people, making new fans and friends, etc.

6.  Is there a particular method you have for composing a song? Where do you feel most comfortable writing music?

For Luke, the songs just come to him.  it’s almost like they just download into his head and he hears all the instruments and melody together, basically he gets a vision of exactly what the song is going to sound like and all the instrumentation.  he doesn’t sit down with an acoustic guitar and struggle to put different chords together.  I guess it’s his gift.

7.  What is the most memorable experience you’ve had on tour?

there are way too many to pick just one.  vehicle fires, having to tour in a moving truck because of the vehicle fires, seeing the deserts and mountains of the southwest, the forests of the northwest, blizzards in the mountains of the northwest, traveling over 60,000 miles on recycled vegetable oil, sleeping in the van or under the stars, playing for 4 people and then playing for 4,000 people, etc.
